like it or not, stories teach. stories give context to content and thus make it meaningful and therefore memorable and even actionable. a lot of writers resent this fact and instead strive to render their work neutral and themselves invisible within it. this, of course, doesn't work. it can't. attempting neutrality is only ever based on the immature assumption that the status quo is a given and it never is. attempting neutrality is to advocate for how things are. it's taking a side.
